About Us

The Cantabile Chapter of SSA is made up of largely members of the SSO Chorale. We spend most of our efforts producing the spring choral concert held each year towards the end of the performing season. Cantabile also supports the receptions held after SSO concerts, both classics and pops. In the 2017-2018 season we put on three receptions (decorations and themes) along with food items donated by Yokes.

Chorale history

The Spokane Symphony Chorale was established in 1955 as a volunteer organization. And, since 1978, has been an official entity of the Spokane Symphony. As part of the Spokane Symphony, we have performed a wide range of musical works, such as Handel's Messiah, Britten's War Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, and numerous operas. Led by Director Kristina Ploeger since 2016, we also are often invited to sing the National Anthem at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena and Avista Stadium. The Chorale enjoys a dedicated volunteer base of more than 80 singers from the Spokane area; including many who commute from Coeur d'Alene, Davenport, Sandpoint, and Pullman to participate in the over 100 hours of volunteer rehearsal and performance time required for each concert season. The professions of these volunteers are varied: music educators, church choir directors, opera and theater performers, doctors, nurses, realtors, salespeople, web designers, graphic artists, homemakers, and many others who come together each week to share a love of singing.
